Yaxley, church of St Mary the Virgin, interior from W
This photograph gives an indication of the impressive height of the church with its carved wooden 15thc roodscreen and Jacobean pulpit. Extensive alterations were undertaken in 1868 when the chancel was rebuilt and the arch remodelled. The chancel was paved and tiled and new benches installed in the nave. The east window currently contains a fascinating assemblage of old glass, some medieval, placed here in the 1880s.
