East Bergholt, St Mary's church from SW
A fine 15c and 16c church of flint and brick. The west tower, begun in 1525, was never completed due to the demise of one of its benefactors, Cardinal Wolsey. The five bells now hang in a curious wooden bell-cage in the churchyard. The east end brick gable is crowned by an 18thc cupola. The church holds a memorial stained glass window to John Constable.
